By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Captain (Medical Corps) Zeno C. Holt, United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving Field Hospital No. 26, 3d Sanitary Train, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, at Very, France, from 4 – 14 October 1918, under extremely trying conditions and at times under shell fire, Captain Holt successfully administered blood transfusions and performed operations requiring more than ordinary surgical skill, undoubtedly saving many lives and contributing to the comfort and welfare of a great number of severely wounded and shock cases.
