    Headquarters, 3d Division, A.E.F., Citation Orders No. 22 (July 8, 1919)

By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Captain (Medical Corps Emmett B. Bruton, United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While Commanding Ambulance Company No. 7, 3d Sanitary Train, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Captain Bruton distinguished himself during the Second Battle of the Marne, from 14 July to 10 August 1918, while in and around Courboin, Crezancy, St. Eugene, Le Charmel, Jaulgonne, and Arcis en Ponsart, he so conducted himself under the severest enemy shell fire, in his ardent determination to get every wounded man safely to the rear, as to set a most inspiring example for all the men of his command. On the Argonne-Meuse Sector, from 1 to 30 October 1918, he heroic conduct of this commanding officer is worthy of special mention and commendation. The conditions in this particular sector were such during our recent offensive as to render the ambulance situation at times critical. The concern of this officer for the care and prompt handling of the constant stream of wounded which passed through his hands manifested itself in a zeal and fearless courage which the most dangerous situation failed in any way to diminish. His bravery, energy and coolness during the periods of heavy shelling around Montfaucon contributed largely to the success which attended the activities of our Medical Unites during these operation.
