By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Corporal Benjamin B. Pecker (ASN: 748200), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Company D, 3d Ammunition Train, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Corporal Pecker volunteered to haul ammunition in Ford vans from La Greves Farm to the 7th Machine-Gun Battalion, located on the right bank of the Marne River in a position wholly unprotected and in direct range of the German machine gun and rifle fire. He was continuously in gas attacks and under shell fire for 48 hours, July 15 – 17, 1918.
