By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Sergeant James N. Taggart (ASN: 1543836), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Company B, 3d Ammunition Train, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, during the Aisne-Marne Offensive, July 18 – 31 1918, Sergeant Taggart showed gallantry at Jaulgonne, France, in handling men under continual shell fire and while delivering ammunition to batteries, gave first aid to wounded men, carrying them from under heavy shell fire on 28 July 1918.
