    By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Private James H. Hall (ASN: 2444373), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Company C, 5th Field Signal Battalion, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, on 11 October 1918, in the Bois de Cunel, France, during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive, Private Hall displayed great courage in working continuously under a very destructive shell fire and amid considerable sniping while repairing telephone communication with the forward battalion which was being destroyed frequently.

While serving with Company C, 5th Field Signal Battalion, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, on the night of 14 – 15 July 1918, near Fossoy, France, Private Hall worked fearlessly and without regard for personal safety under heavy artillery and machine gun fire, in repairing telephone lines in forward areas. He further patrolled the lines continuously during the night in order to maintain communication.
