    Headquarters, 3d Division, A.E.F., Citation Orders No. 22 (July 8, 1919)

By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Sergeant Deaver B. Dooge (ASN: 244444), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Company C, 5th Field Signal Battalion, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, on 11 October 1918, north of the Boise de Cunel, during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive, Sergeant Dooge exhibited great courage and disregard for his personal safety in crossing an open field and ascending a hill in full view of enemy snipers and under heavy artillery fire in order to install telephone communications from the forward battalion Post of Command to an observation post in the front line trench.
