Vaughn (ASN: 159039), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Company E, 6th Engineer Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, at Claire Chenes Woods, 20 – 27 October 1918, Private Vaughn acted as Runner under heavy shell and machine gun fire, never failing to deliver a message promptly and efficiently.
