    By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Private First Class William Katz (ASN: 14350), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with the 6th Engineer Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, at Mezy, France, on the night of 21 July and the day of 22 July 1918, Private Katz showed exceptional bravery and devotion to duty in aiding and dressing wounded men and in bringing wounded infantrymen across the Marne River under sniper fire and heavy artillery fire, in addition to his duties with the 6th Engineers.
