By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Private Andrew J. Sullivan (ASN: 157877), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Company A, 6th Engineer Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Private Sullivan was on duty on 15 July 1918, in the Bois d’Aigremont, France. When two of his company officers were badly wounded during a severe artillery fire, he showed great courage and disregard for personal safety by volunteering with three of his fellow soldiers to carry these officers to a dressing station. He successfully accomplished his mission, although two of his fellow soldiers were killed.
