By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Master Engineer Virgil C. Young (ASN: 157668), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While attached to Company E, 6th Engineer Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in the Bois d’Aigremont, near Fossoy, Aisne, France, on 15 July 1918, during the heavy bombardment, he constantly exposed himself in endeavoring to save the company wagons. His coolness during the bombardment and his care of the wounded served as an example to the men around him.
