By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Second Lieutenant (Corps of Engineers) Dewey A. Teachout, United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with the 6th Engineer Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, during his service with his company in the Aisne-Marne Offensive, St. Mihiel and Meuse Argonne, Lieutenant Teachout conducted himself with bravery. In the Boise de Foret and Claire Chenes Wood on the nights of 20 and 21 October 1918, he led his men with untiring energy through shell fire on his duty with a wiring party.
