By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Private Warren B. Towne (ASN: 1550760), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Battery C, 76th Field Artillery Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Private Towne displayed conspicuous services in battle at Grand Huerte-bis Ferme, France, during the German onslaught on the night of 14 – 15 July 1918, in repairing telephone lines, regardless of personal danger, when the lines were repeatedly cut by enemy shells, and in going through and returning through heavy shell fire for information concerning the situation of our own infantry lines.
