By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Private Lewis R. Moore (ASN: 306847), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Battery F, 76th Field Artillery Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Private Moore displayed conspicuous devotion to duty in continually repairing telephone lines under heavy shell fire during the night of 14 – 15 July 1918 and during 15 July 1918, near the Marne River, overlooking Chateau-Thierry, France, regardless of personal danger, after the lines had been often broken by enemy shell fire.
