By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Private Howard A. Hughey (ASN: 1550463), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Battery B, 76th Field Artillery Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Private Hughey showed coolness and conspicuous service in battle near Le Charmel, France, on 28 July 1918, when his team had been killed by a bomb from an airplane, which killed and wounded 33 members of his battery. He immediately secured and mounted another team and pulled his piece into position.
