By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Private First Class Harry Parkin (ASN: 1551063), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Battery E, 76th Field Artillery Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Private First Class Parkin demonstrated self-sacrificing and heroic devotion to duty at Les Norvins Ferme, France, on 15 July 1918. During heavy shelling and in spite of suffering from gas poisoning which later caused his evacuation he continued to repair telephone lines until relieved by his battery commander.
