    Headquarters, 3d Division, A.E.F., Citation Orders No. 22 (July 8, 1919)

By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Private First Class Arthur Jackson, United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with the 76th Field Artillery Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Private First Class Jackson displayed exceptional courage at Montfaucon, France, 8 October 1918. He voluntarily assisted in repairing and placing in position a captured German battery, then acted as Number One, laid the guns and set fuses. Later when it became necessary to move he aided in loading the trucks with enemy ammunition and in the new position again took up the work of Number One. All this work, which was performed under heavy enemy’s shell fire, was outside of his duties as a member of the Ordnance Field Force.
