By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Private First Class Guiseppe Carnali (ASN: 1550300), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Battery A, 76th Field Artillery Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Private First Class Carnali demonstrated continuous heroism and dd during the attack of 14 July 1918, and following days at Petit Bordeaux (Battle of the Marne). He kept communications open under the heaviest of shell fire and whenever communications went out he was always the first to go out on a line. The same unusual service was rendered at Montfaucon, Hill 253 and back of Hill 299, where the battery was under heavy shelling.
