By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Cook Clarence H. Hickman (ASN: 1550439), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Battery B, 76th Field Artillery Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, at Montfaucon, France, on the night of 2 October 1918, when the battery had been shelled on the road then going into position, Cook Hickman displayed great coolness and bravery and disregard for personal safety by leaving his rolling kitchen and hastening to the aid of those injured and applying with care and skill first aid bandages to their wounds.
