By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Cook Joseph Codeluppe (ASN: 1551034), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Battery E, 76th Field Artillery Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Cook Codeluppe displayed conspicuous devotion to duty and self-sacrifice at Rembercourt, France, 11 September 1918, in staying with the rolling kitchen and maintaining the battery mess under heavy shell fire that hit the vehicle on which he was working twice. Although warned of his danger he refused to leave his post until ordered to do so by his superior officer.
