By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Corporal Ralph F. Tower (ASN: 1550222), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Battery A, 76th Field Artillery Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Corporal Tower distinguished himself by conspicuous services in battle on 15 July 1918, during the German attack on the Marne River, near Petit Bordeaux Woods, France, and by bravery and success in carrying messages under heavy enemy shell fire between his batteries and the Headquarters of the 7th Infantry at Le Rocq Ferme, France.
