By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Corporal Eugene E. Cannon (ASN: 1550057), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Headquarters Company, 76th Field Artillery Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Corporal Cannon showed great devotion to his work and excellent performance of his duties as Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge of the telephone detail of the 2d Battalion Headquarters, 76th Field Artillery, through the entire Meuse-Argonne Offensive. He at all times led his men on particularly hazardous or disagreeable missions rather than send others out, and by the example he set and the skillful work he did, maintaining communications, thus enabling the battalion to do greatly superior work in assisting the Infantry which it was supporting.
