By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Sergeant Edward Rumse (ASN: 757812), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with the 76th Field Artillery Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Sergeant Rumse rendered conspicuous service in battle by his unusual disregard for personal danger, when he spent the night of 14 – 15 July 1918, aiding his Captain in giving aid and encouragement to the men, and in in keeping up the fire of the battery in spite of the efforts of the enemy batteries to silence it, and assisted in carrying in the wounded until they had been removed to a place of safety, near the Marne River, Chateau Thierry Region, France.
