By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Sergeant Leonard H. Nason (ASN: 1550376), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Battery A, 76th Field Artillery Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Sergeant Nason rendered services in battle on 14 – 15 July 1918, near Petit Bordeaux Woods, France, where he exhibited extraordinary heroism in persistently carrying messages under heavy shell fire to maintain the liaison between his battalion and the 7th Infantry at Le Rocq Ferme, France, and in repairing the telephone line which was repeatedly cut by enemy shells, until he was incapacitated by exhaustion and shell shock.
