By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Sergeant James F. McAdams (ASN: 1550211), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Battery A, 76th Field Artillery Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Sergeant McAdams showed conspicuous heroism and devotion to duty on 23 July 1918. At Mont St. Pere, he accurately located under heavy shell fire the battery position from the top of a hill where he was under direct observation of the enemy and it was necessary for him to move his plane table several times to keep from being annihilated.
