By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Sergeant Samuel Goldman (ASN: 1550921), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Battery D, 76th Field Artillery Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Sergeant Goldman showed extraordinary heroism during the battles before Montfaucon, Cierges, and Bantheville, 5 to 16 October 1918. While in command of an ammunition detail he kept up the ammunition supply under the most trying of circumstances and intensive fire and by his conduct inspired his men to greater efforts, thereby materially aiding in accomplishing the mission assigned his battery.
