By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Sergeant Edward Delaney (ASN: 1550811), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Battery D, 76th Field Artillery Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Sergeant Delaney showed extraordinary heroism during the engagements before Bantheville, 8 to 18 October 1918. While in command of a gun section, and subjected to intensive fire, he, although wounded, by his conduct inspired his men in spite of heavy losses, into carrying on, and accomplishing the missions assigned.
