By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Sergeant Henry W. Clark (ASN: 757669), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Battery F, 76th Field Artillery Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Sergeant Clark showed conspicuous services in battle on 15 July 1918, near the Marne River, overlooking Chateau Thierry, France, in remaining at his post at the forward observation station, which was being heavily shelled by the enemy, and for great skill under fire in assisting to direct the fire of the battery until the line of communication was broken by enemy shell fire, when he assisted a wounded companion to a dressing station.
