    By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), First Lieutenant (Dental Corps) Chester L. Sandifort, United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with the Medical Detachment, 76th Field Artillery Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Lieutenant Sandifort displayed exceptional courage in the Marne Defensive near Chateau-Thierry, France, on 15 July 1918. He repeatedly exposed himself to heavy enemy fire to give aid to the wounded. He also rendered distinguished services at Tuilerie Farm 24 July 1918; at Le Charmel 27 July 1918; and at Roncheres 31 July 1918.
