By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Captain (Field Artillery) John Seymour Jadwin, United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with the 76th Field Artillery Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in October 1918 during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive, when his Battalion Commanding Officer was severely wounded, Captain Jadwin took command of, and handled the Battalion through a month of the severest fighting until he himself was seriously wounded by a shell fragment. His energy and good judgment enabled his battalion to very materially aid the 38th Infantry Regiment in its successful attack on the Kreimhilde Stellung.
