By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Sergeant Major George Bausewein, United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with 1st Battalion, 18th Field Artillery Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Sergeant Major Bausewein remained on duty with Telephone Officer Lieutenant Knapp in keeping up communication to batteries north of Le Donjon Farm; was constantly on duty doing everything possible with disregard of personal danger. At various times he directed work of removing wounded from under shell fire. His example of coolness and courage obtained the best results from his men and gave most valuable service to the United States.
