By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Private Edward A. Mische (ASN: 1038549), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Battery C, 10th Field Artillery Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, during the early Marne engagements, as a machine gunner, Private Mische worked tirelessly for several days without rest carrying ammunition through woods and over roads impossible to vehicles. Then, during the heaviest bombardment, he volunteered to carry ammunition to the guns. In all the succeeding actions on the Marne, he worked faithfully and well. While serving as a cannoneer on the St. Mihiel, he was severely wounded.
