By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Private James Harris (ASN: 1038305), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Battery B, 10th Field Artillery Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Private Harris served with his battery courageously and efficiently during the action on the Marne, at St. Mihiel, and in the Argonne until badly gassed. On the Marne, 15 July 1918, he voluntarily carried ammunition by hand from a dump more than a mile distant, over a road that was under terrific bombardment.
