By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Private Lee E. Eason (ASN: 1038354), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Battery B, 10th Field Artillery Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Private Eason served faithfully and courageously with his battery throughout the entire actions of the Marne, St. Mihiel, and the Argonne, and on the morning of 15 July 1918, during the German attack, voluntarily carried ammunition by hand more than a mile over a road that was under such severe shell fire as to be impassable for vehicles. He was entrusted with the duty of keeping the firing battery supplied with drinking water and was at all times untiring and faithful in the performance of this duty, making frequent trips over exposed and shell-swept roads.
