By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Private Leo J. Bukowski (ASN: 1038334), United States Army, is cited (Posthumously) by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Battery B, 10th Field Artillery Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Private Bukowski served his battery courageously and efficiently during the entire engagements on the Marne, at St. Mihiel and in the Argonne until killed in action 14 October 1918, while serving as a member of a gun crew in the engagement north of Verdun. During the Marne engagement he voluntarily carried ammunition by hand from a dump more than a mile distant over roads that were under terrific shell fire.
