By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Private First Class Steve Walunis (ASN: 1038325), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Battery B, 10th Field Artillery Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Private First Class Walunis served his battery faithfully and courageously throughout the entire actions of the Marne, at St. Mihiel, and at the Argonne. He rendered valuable assistance in taking ammunition to his battery through heavy shell fire on the night of 14 – 15 July 1918 and 6 November 1918, in the action north of Verdun, while acting as wheel driver on a 75-mm. gun, he succeeded in stopping and controlling his team after both the lead and swing team drivers had been killed, the road being under severe shell fire.
