By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Private First Class Salvatore Russo, United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Battery A, 10th Field Artillery Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, on the morning of 15 July 1918, at Janvier Farm, France, Private First Class Russo assisted in moving a piece by hand, under heavy enemy fire, from an exposed flank position to hits normal battery position. Through his heroism it was possible to use this piece in the S.O.S. barrage. Several times the men in this party were knocked down by the concussion of shells breaking near them.
