By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Private First Class Hugh T. Jones (ASN: 1038307), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Battery B, 10th Field Artillery Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Private First Class Jones served faithfully and courageously as cannoneer throughout the actions on the Marne, at St. Mihiel and the Argonne. He voluntarily carried ammunition by hand for more than a mile over a road that was being so heavily shelled that it was impossible for vehicles to use it. He went up with a forward piece under severe shell fire and remained at his post until relieved.
