By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Private First Class Carl Ash (ASN: 1038295), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Battery B, 10th Field Artillery Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Private First Class Ash served as driver on the ammunition train through the actions on the Marne, St. Mihiel, and the Argonne, constantly assisting in supplying his battery with ammunition while exposed to heavy shell fire and under great difficulties. He volunteered his services as driver to carry ammunition on the morning of 15 July 1918 during the German attack and after many of his companions had fallen in an effort to reach the battery.
