By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Private First Class Alton Adams, United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Battery D, 10th Field Artillery Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Private First Class Adams distinguished himself at Montfaucon, France, 6 October 1918, by successfully conducting trucks with needed supplies of ammunition to batteries in exposed positions. On 6 November 1918, near Dun-sur-Meuse, France, finding that the bridges near Liny-devant-Dun, France, head been destroyed, he led the trucks to the batteries on the east side of the Meuse by way of the Dun bridge all this time under heavy fire. By his action the trucks under his guidance arrived two hours earlier than any others.
