    Headquarters, 3d Division, A.E.F., Citation Orders No. 22 (July 8, 1919)

By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Wagoner Joseph Barton, United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Supply Company, 10th Field Artillery Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Wagoner Barton voluntarily exposed himself to haul wounded over the shell-swept area from Greves Farm to Courboin, France, 15 July 1918. In spite of the fact that his horses were gassed and his wagon hit he continued at his self-appointed task, saving many wounded who would otherwise have died from lack of attention.
