By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Mechanic Clarence E. Beaupore (ASN: 1038283), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Battery B, 10th Field Artillery Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Mechanic Beaupre was badly gassed on the night of 14 July 1918, on the Marne, and the battery being very short of men, was mounted on a horse and sent to the rear alone, but meeting an ammunition train whose teams had been killed by shell fire, voluntarily dismounted, turned his horse over to the non-commissioned officer in charge of the train and rendered valuable aid in hitching in new horses, all the while under heavy shell fire.
