By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Horseshoer Frank A. Heaton (ASN: 1038281), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Battery B, 10th Field Artillery Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Horseshoer Heaton served faithfully and courageously with his battery throughout the entire actions of the Marne, St. Mihiel, and the Argonne, being always cheerful and energetic in the performance of his duties. While serving as driver during the battle of the Marne, after waiting on an exposed road all night to take ammunition to his battery his team was struck by a shell, wounding his companion severely and killing all but one of his horses. He then put the wounded man on the remaining horse and got him safely back to the dressing station through terrific shell fire.
