Miles (ASN: 1038382), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Battery B, 10th Field Artillery Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Corporal Miles served his battery courageously and efficiently during the operations on the Marne and at St. Mihiel. While serving as gunner on a 75-mm. gun north of Verdun on 14 October 1918, his entire gun crew was wiped out by a direct hit of an enemy shell, and although severely wounded himself, he refused to accept medical aid until his companions had been cared for and everything possible had been done for their comfort.
