By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Corporal Foster I. Bradford, United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Battery D, 10th Field Artillery Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, on 14 – 15 July 1918, near Greves Farm, France, Corporal Bradford, gunner, displayed unusual courage, under intense shell fire, by staying at his gun and firing constantly for many hours until he was deafened to such a degree that he was unable to hear the firing data. Even then, however, he remained at his post, obtaining the firing data by reading the Chief of Section’s book, thereby enabling important fires to be executed and setting a splendid example of devotion to duty for the crew of his piece.
