By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Corporal Glen C. Athey, United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Battery E, 10th Field Artillery Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Corporal Athey displayed exceptional courage near Greves Farm, France, 15 July 1918. He carried ammunition to the forward battery under heavy enemy shell fire. On one occasion, seeing a man mortally wounded, he gave him such aid as he could, then carried the ammunition which the wounded man had to the gun.
