By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Sergeant John Woock (ASN: 1038607), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Battery C, 10th Field Artillery Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in the Marne engagement, Sergeant Woock took the men of the two machine gun crews and brought the ammunition which the batter so sorely needed to ward off the impending attack. For more than a mile distant over impassable roads and through thick woods he brought the ammunition and worked without sleep or rest. Then after less than two hours rest he again volunteered to carry ammunition to the guns during the heavy bombardment of 15 July 1918. Through the succeeding engagements, the Marne to the Meuse, he repeatedly rendered like services.
