Perkins, United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Battery F, 10th Field Artillery Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Sergeant Perkins distinguished himself at Greves Farm, near Chateau-Thierry, France, 15 July 1918, when he led a detail carrying ammunition under heavyfire from his own battery to another battery a half-kilometer distant. This detail made four trips across a shell field and by their act this battery was enabled to continue its firing.
