    Headquarters, 3d Division, A.E.F., Citation Orders No. 22 (July 8, 1919)

By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Sergeant Daniel C. Kinrey (ASN: 1038071), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Battery A, 10th Field Artillery Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, on the forenoon of 15 July 1918, when the French machine guns had retired to the rear of the Battery, thereby exposing the Battery to the direct fire of the machine guns, and after the Battery had fired all the ammunition available anywhere in the vicinity, he volunteered to stay by the guns and to spike them. This he succeeded in doing and returned to the Battery echelon, being wounded slightly by enemy machine gun fire. It was due to Sergeant Kinrey’s bravery and that of his men that the guns were prevented from falling into the hands of the Germans in a condition such that they could be used.
