By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Sergeant Harvey A. Daggett (ASN: 1038255), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Battery B, 10th Field Artillery Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Sergeant Daggett served with his Battery faithfully during the actions on the Marne and in the Argonne. He was in charge of the ammunition train on the night of 14 July 1918; during the German attack and in the face of the greatest difficulty and danger, he did everything possible to get ammunition to his Battery and to protect his men and teams. Voluntarily, he made a search for First Lieutenant Winfred C. Green, 10th Field Artillery, who was missing and supposed to be lying in the nearby woods wounded, being severely wounded himself while on this mission. During the Argonne he serves as Chief of the Second Section until he was severely gassed. His courage and devotion was evident at all times and an example to his men.
