By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Sergeant Frank H. Brown (ASN: 1039042), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Battery F, 10th Field Artillery Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, on 10 October 1918, and the days following at Cierges, near Montfaucon, France, Sergeant Brown showed the greatest bravery and utter disregard of personal danger in bringing ammunition to the battery. He had to pass to and fro along the line subjected to heavy shell fire, but with great coolness made this trip time after time and inspired by his courage the other men of the battery. The greater part of the time he was actually sick and should have been evacuated but refused relief, continuing his work in the battery.
